The Scottish Physical Activity Research Collaboration (SPARColl) is based at the University of Strathclyde. The collaboration is funded by the Scottish Government until December 2010 and managed by NHS Health Scotland. The focus of the SPARColl work plan is on walking. Further information on SPARColl research is available in the research section of this site. A major focus of SPARColl work plan is a community walking intervention, Walking for Wellbeing in the West.
If you would like to contact the collaboration, please contact the SPARColl project co-ordinator, Chloe McAdam.

SPARColl is pleased to be supporting further implementaion of findings from its Walking for Well-being in the West (WWW) intervention through the West End Walkers 65+ walking programme with older adults in Glasgow. WEW 65 aims to test the feasiblilty of a pedometer programme with inactive adults aged 65 years and over in a primary care setting.
Further information on WEW 65 can be found under the research section of our website.
In 2008, a review group carried out a full review of how 'lets make Scotland more active' had been implemented in the last five years. The report can be viewed here.
SPARColl was asked to provide evidence concerning recommendations of the amount and type of physical activity needed for health gain. This evidence informed the full strategy review. This report includes a summary of the evidence considered.
